The Rumble

Yesterday we the Greasers had a rumble against the Socs. We were extremely excited we went to the empty lot all jumping as if we were celebrating a victory even though we hadn’t started fighting yet. We got there before the Socs but there was another group of boys there. The boys were  from another city and their group was called the Brumly. The Socs definitely outnumbered us. Pony told me he had counted 22 Socs. “They lined up silently, facing  us, and we lined up facing them.” Then we got the rules.

Darry said that he was ready to take on anyone when blond boy called Paul stepped up. They  started to circle around in a fight. No one would swing until Dallas yelled hold up and came running. That was the moment Paul hit Darry in the jaw and that was also the moment that the rumble had begun. It wasn’t a nice thing to watch. Dally’s arm was hurt but he still wanted to take part in this extreme moment for us Greasers. He got out of the hospital by threatening the nurse with his switchblade. The whole fight was ugly. There people throwing fists and kicks, there were people jumping on each others backs and there were people breaking bones and getting seriously hurt. It was something that needed to be done so that we would show the who we are.

We were fighting and showing our dignity when they started leaving. We were so happy that we had won the rumble. We might have been all bruised up, with broken bones and with blood constantly dripping from our heads but at least were happy to know that all that we had been through was going to be worth something in the end.
